Scientific equipment for climate research, industrial measurements and air quality analysis

Climate-related extreme weather events such as devastating floods, heat waves, wildfires and cyclones are becoming increasingly commonplace. In recent years, conclusions about human influence on the climate system have shifted from “likely” to “clear”. Recently, the UN’s climate science body (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)), published a report in which they state that human influence unequivocally has warmed the atmosphere, ocean and land. Additionally, human activities, such as domestic heating, industry, energy production and transport, also contribute to air pollution. This has a significant impact on our health (cardiovascular & respiratory problems) as well as on ecosystems through nitrogen pollution and acid rain

Due to major developments of (new) scientific equipment, scientists are able to better understand the climate system, climate change effects, air pollution and what we could do to mitigate those effects. The Dutch Scientist is proud to support environmental scientists, hydrologists, (paleo)climatologists, oceanographers, geologists, ecologists, agriculturists, and other scientists working on climate science and air quality monitoring, by delivering high quality scientific equipment that can be used to study the climate system.

Measuring is knowing

The main driver of climate change is the greenhouse effect, caused by high concentrations of methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, water vapor and chlorofluorocarbons in the atmosphere. Regulations become more stringent for industry to reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases as well as toxic gases like hydrogen fluoride, formaldehyde, ammonia and others. Other pollutants, like particulate matter (PM2.5, PM10), ozone, nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide, are important indicators for air quality, which are subject to clean air policies often managed by local Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA’s) or larger organizations, such as World Health Organization (WHO) or European Environment Agency (EEA). One way to visualize reductions is to continuously measure the concentration of these gases over a long timescale (years).

The Dutch Scientist delivers real-time, high precision gas analyzers for the measurement of (toxic) trace gases with parts-per trillion (ppt) sensitivity. This contributes to compliance with current or upcoming regulations, creating safer in- and outdoor environments and allows the optimization of industrial and agricultural processes.

MARKETS & PRODUCTS

Our product portfolio includes a range of analyzers that measure gas concentrations as well as isotopic ratios, with extreme high precision & sensitivity and negligible drift. The systems can be used either in the field or laboratory for continuous monitoring of greenhouse gas concentrations or toxic trace gas measurements. Furthermore, sample preparation peripherals extend the range of sample types which can be isotopically analyzed, to include liquid and solid samples.

Complementary to these analyzers, we also deliver lysimeters, ecotrons and other soil/hydrology measurement devices for determining water balance variables and functions in soil-plant-atmosphere system under defined boundary conditions.

The systems are widely used in the scientific world for studying atmospheric science, air quality measurements, soil & plant science, geochemistry and water science (hydrology, oceanography, paleoclimatology).

In the industry, systems can be used for safety & compliance monitoring (measure toxic trace gases), emission measurements (e.g. CO2, NO2, NOx, SO2, CH4, H2S, VOC's emissions), AMC clean-room monitoring, process monitoring in petrochemical industry,  online monitoring of bioprocesses, pharma production & medical research, food testing (origin and authenticity analysis).
